Referral request

Thoughtfully ask a client for referrals and make introductions easy and comfortable.

When I want to ask a client for referrals, I want to do it thoughtfully and make it easy for them to introduce me to people in their network. This workflow helps me request referrals professionally without being pushy.

Follow these steps:

1. Pull the client's contact information from my CRM including how long they've been a client, recent interactions, and any relevant context about your relationship.

2. Draft a referral request email in my draft folder. Follow these rules:
   - Keep the tone warm, genuine, and not overly salesy.
   - Express appreciation for your working relationship.
   - Explain that you're looking to help more people like them.
   - Make it easy by asking if they know anyone in a specific situation or life stage.
   - Provide examples of the types of people you can help.
   - Make it clear there's no pressure - you're simply asking.
   - Offer to make the introduction process easy for them.
   - Use the following example for inspiration:

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to reach out because I'm looking to help more [families / professionals / business owners] like you with their financial planning.

If you know anyone who might benefit from the kind of work we do together - whether they're [specific situations - planning for retirement / navigating a job change / growing their family / starting a business / etc.] - I'd be grateful for an introduction.

I know referrals are personal, so there's absolutely no pressure. But if someone comes to mind who could use help with [financial planning / investment management / retirement planning / etc.], I'd love the opportunity to support them the way I've been able to support you.

Feel free to share my contact information directly, or let me know and I'm happy to reach out on your behalf - whatever is easiest for you.

3. Add a note to the client's CRM record documenting:
   - That a referral request was sent
   - Date of request
   - Context or specific ask if applicable
