Marking a task done in Quin updates it in Asana too

Marking something done usually means doing it twice: once in whatever tool the conversation is happening in, and again in Asana, so the project board reflects it. Skip the second half and a task sits open in Asana long after it's finished.

What normally has to happen to keep both places current

• Finishing a task, then remembering it also lives in Asana as a separate entry.
• Opening Asana, finding the task among everything else in the project, and marking it complete there too.
• Doing this for every task created from a conversation, on top of the ones created directly in Asana.
• A project board that shows work as still open, days after it wrapped up.
• A teammate checking the board and making a decision based on a status that's already stale.

How Quin handles it

Marking a task complete in Quin updates it in Asana immediately, the same way creating a task through Quin adds it to Asana in the first place. Neither system is the one true copy that the other has to catch up to; a change in either place is reflected in both. That works the same direction as well: a task marked complete directly in Asana shows as done in Quin, without needing to mention it separately.

Say a task Quin created last week, "follow up with Alex about the design mockups," gets marked done in a conversation with Quin once that follow-up happens. Asana reflects the completed status right away, without a separate trip to check the box there too.

Why this matters

A project board is only useful if it shows what's true. A task that's finished but still shows as open in Asana creates the same kind of confusion as one that's still open but marked done by mistake: someone makes a decision based on information that's already out of date. Keeping both systems in sync as changes happen, rather than periodically, is what keeps the board trustworthy enough to check without double-checking it.

Getting the most out of it

• Mark tasks complete through whichever tool is already open, since either one updates the other.
• Confirm you have permission to edit tasks in Asana, since the sync depends on it.
• Allow a few minutes for a status change to sync if it doesn't appear immediately.
• Reconnect the integration if completed tasks in Quin stop reflecting in Asana after working fine before.

Setting it up

Connect Asana under Settings, then Integrations, and choose a default workspace and project when prompted. From there, marking a task complete in either Quin or Asana keeps both systems showing the same thing.
